Google OS: Blazing Fast, Incredibly Sleek.

Google is set to launch their own computer software, Google Chrome OS, in late 2010.

What does this mean to me and you?

Rumors are swirling that Google OS is so fast that it takes nearly 7 seconds from the moment you press power to the moment the desktop is done loading! As fast as your T.V.!

To good to be true?

"Manufacturers have yet to announce pricing on netbooks shipping with Chrome OS, but Google expects the cost to be about the same as current netbooks. On average, netbooks cost between $300 and $500" says wired.com

Low Price, High Quality, Fast speed?! Since when is anything Good, fast, and cheap! A deadly combination for competitors.

So where it the extra edge that Google is famous for? How about...No hard Drives.

Yes that's right, "
Chrome OS netbooks will not have traditional hard disk drives -- they will rely on non-volatile flash memory and Internet-based storage for saving all of your data." states Wired Magazine.

"Chrome OS is a totally rethought computer that will let you focus on the Internet, so you can stop worrying about your computer," according to a Google promotional video.

Can Windows and Mac compete?

In my opinion, Yes. For now. Google has a very simple theme whuch focuses soley on the internet and Web 2.0 interface. So if your into playing video games, editing movies, writing reports, or just staying off the internet, then Chrome might not be for you yet.

Reason being, Google has repeatedly held to the idea that in the future, everything will be on the internet, including all of the above things mentioned.

Also, Chrome is not downloadable so you will have to buy the software already installed on the stores computers.

Google has once again become the leader in innovative technology that other companies are scurrying to keep up with.

Windows 7: Robust. Useful. Better.

Move over Apple, Windows has gotten its groove back!

Finally Windows has created a useful system that they can add to their severely scarred record of operating systems. Windows XP, their most popular system ever was also their last good operating system. At least for close to a decade.

Reviews from all across the spectrum hail Windows 7 as the system that will rise Windows from the dead and put them back into the spotlight as the front runner in operation sytem technology.

At least until Google's Chrome OS hits the market in the second half of 2010.

Who will come out on top of the operation system world in the next few years in unknown. Right now all we see is that Windows has finally gotten their edge back, and is probably going to think twice before they release a shabby version of their system EVER again.

Bottom Line:

Cnet's Seth Rosenblatt had this to say about 7, "Windows 7 is more than what Vista should have been, it's where Microsoft needed to go. How much damage Vista did and whether Windows 7 is enough for people to finally abandon Windows XP are questions that nobody has the answers to right now."

Technology Impact Interview

Recently I asked an old associate from the University of Minnesota medical Foundation a few questions about how technology impacts his day to day activities. After greeting each other the interview went as followed:

Tim: "How does How do you feel technological advances in the work place have impacted you most?"

Mike: "Well as an accountant I deal with software that revolves around using a computer, so anything that can make my job faster and more convenient is always a plus."

Tim: " What would you describe as more convenient?"

Mike: "Well (Pause) for example, Microsoft Outlook makes it easier to bundle my email addresses and calendar dates together to create a more efficient way of working."

Tim: "Do you ever get frusturated at technological trends that seem more complicated than easy?"

Mike: "Yes, quite a bit. There have been problems with software programs that don't corrolate with my PC, I would go into detail but I don't want to bore you. Pretty much routing problems and wrong drivers that aren't compatible with Vista and what not."

Tim: "On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being Extremely often and 1 being Extremely little how would you rate how much you use social networking sites."

Mike: "Haha, well I would give that a 5, my kids are getting me into Facebook."

Tim: "What do you like about Facebook that makes you keep coming back to it?"

Mike: "Well it makes me feel like I have more friends!" (Laughing) "I'm not all that savvy but the layout they provide makes it seem pretty simple."

Tim: "Do you have an IT team at your workplace?"

Mike: "Yes, would be lost without them."

Tim: "How effective they are in helping you with technological problems."

Mike: " Incredible. They know whats wrong with my computer before I do!"

Tim: "Overall has technology helped you get work done faster or slower than in earlier years when you did not have everything?"

Mike: "This is the easiest question of them all (laughing), definitely easier, I probably get twice the amount of work done that I used to get done on my slow 80's clunker!
